Fascinating Historical Photos Of Omaha, Nebraska From The Early 20th Century

Omaha is the largest city of Nebraska founded in 1854. From the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, Omaha emerged as one of the top livestock markets in the world and a leader in meat-processing industry. Gambling, drinking and prostitution were also widespread in the late-19th century.

By the turn of the 20th century, the population of the city was increased, racial tensions were high, the city’s labor and management clashed in bitter strikes. A major riot by earlier immigrants in South Omaha destroyed the city’s Greek Town in 1909, completely driving out the Greek population. Today, Omaha is the home to the headquarters of some of the biggest construction and Fortune 500 companies.
