Board of Trade building is one of Great Lost Buildings of Toronto. But boy, were the buildings ever filthy with coal dust. It was coal dust?
Yes, soft porous stone and brick was quickly blackened by coal dust and exhaust- I remember getting some fine coal dust on my hands and clothes- it was very difficult to get it off my skin let alone my clothes.
I remember the Rathskellar being there, and next door there was another German-style pub (can’t remember the name).
