Boston should have a car-free day. There are only 3-6 car lanes in this small city. Similar to what Bogotá did with Ciclovía
Sometimes they do it on Newbury Street, and it’s eye-opening to see what this city would look like without cars.

All of the sidewalks are brand new or under construction. You can see the wooden framing.
Imagine how much quieter the city was before cars. It must have been nice to have ubiquitous indoor plumbing, but the trade-off is not worth it to me.
It was probably not very quiet. Imagining horse-drawn carts and wagons with wood and iron wheels delivering all goods. The intersection is busier now than it was then – the photographer probably caught an unusually quiet moment – perhaps very early in the morning.
