Queen of Pinups: 50+ Fascinating Photos Of Bettie Page

Bettie Page was a fashion model, also known as Queen of Pinups. During the 50s and 60s, her photographs took the fashion world by storm with her free-spirited demeanor and unabashed sensuality. Her Pinup-style photos were tacked up on walls in military barracks, garages, and fighter aircraft. It has been estimated that over 20,000 photographs of Bettie were taken, and people still buy copies by thousands every year. Bettie Page joined the modeling world at the age of 27 when she was on break from her job as a secretary in the New York office. Photographer Jerry Tibbs captured her first pinup photographs in 1950. Soon after that, she gained popularity in pinup modeling and became the cover girl for various men’s magazines, including Wink, Titter, Eyeful, Beauty Parade, and the Playboy Playmate of the Month in the January 1955 issue. The page also worked with one of America’s first ‘fetish’ photographers, Irving Klaw, from 1952 to 1957. In her shoots, she depicted various moods and scenarios for abduction, domination, and slave training. Bette Page spent her final years living in Los Angeles with her brother. After a three-week battle with pneumonia, she suffered a fatal heart attack and died at 85 in 2008. Have a look at these beautiful pictures of a legendary pinup girl.

  1. The swimsuits and other outfits of Bettie Page always seem to be much more flattering for her figure than photos I see of most other pinup models from the same era, even though I do not know anything about fashion or sewing. I assume this is because she designed and sewed her entire wardrobe herself. She had a hard life before and after her modeling career – from being molested by her father as a child, to missing out on many of the money that was generated from her image, to dealing with mental illness later in life – but she was a talented and influential woman.
