The Ziegfeld Girl is a 1941 American musical film starring James Stewart, Judy Garland, Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner, Tony Martin, Jackie Cooper, Eve Arden, and Philip Dorn.
The film tells the parallel stories of three women who become performers in the Ziegfeld Follies on Broadway. The film was intended to be the 1938 sequel to The Great Ziegfeld, and some footage was reused. The performance of Judy Garland in this film is flawless, and her role fits her like a glove. Despite having the meatiest role in the movie, Lana Turner gives it all, emoting realistically and resisting the temptation to overdo it.
She delivers a bravura performance as the poor kid from Flatbush who rises to stardom and riches, only to fall into despair and alcoholism.
