Movie Career
Loren started her career as a fashion model at the age of 16. She entered Hollywood in 1951 and appeared in several minor and uncredited roles. She adopted the stage name ‘Loren’, from her role in the movie ‘La Favorita’ in 1952. Loren rose to fame with the movie ‘The Gold of Naples’ in 1954 and established herself successful career. In 1957, Loren starred in her first Hollywood film, ‘The Pride and the Passion’. She rose to fame with the Italian World War II film ‘Two Women’. Throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, Loren appeared in some of the super hit movies. She won the Best Actress Academy Award for the film Two Women in 1961 and an Academy Honorary Award in 1991.
Sophia Loren’s Marriage
Sophia Loren met her future husband Carlo Ponti when she was 16 and he was 37. The couple married in 1962 when Ponti was 50 years old and they remained happily married until Ponti’s death in 2007.
Sophia Loren Today
Sophia Loren appeared in more than 100 movies in five decades. She still can be seen, strutting down the red carpet into award shows, looking fabulous in elegant styles. She has always delivered her best and most acclaimed performances playing salt-of-earth women. Currently she lives in Geneva, Switzerland with her two children. Loren also appeared in American-Italian drama film, ‘The Life Ahead’ in 2020.
