Meryl Streep is an Oscar-winning actress known for her perfectionism, masterly techniques, unique style of expression and ability to master any role. She is regarded as one of the greatest and most esteemed actresses of the 20th century. She is known for her work in super hit and diverse movies including ‘Sophie’s Choice, Mamma Mia, Doubt and many more.
Streep started voice training at age 12 and took up acting in high school. She started her acting career in the 1960s as a Stage actress and appeared in several Broadway productions. Before succeeding in her acting career, Streep was a waitress at the Hotel Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey. She made her screen debut with the role of Anne Marie in the in an Oscar-winning drama “Julia”. Streep earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in “The Deer Hunter”. Throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s Streep showed her superb performance in some of the best movies such as Sophie’s Choice, ‘Silkwood, Out of Africa, Ironweed, The hours, and many more. Meryl Streep has won three Academy Awards, and she was nominated 21 times. Streep is known for her perfectionism, and she learned to play the violin by practising six hours a day for eight weeks, for her role in Music of the Heart (1999). She was voted the 37th Greatest Movie Star of all time by Entertainment Weekly.
Meryl Street was romantically involved with actor John Cazale for two years, until his death from Lung cancer in 1978. After Cazale’s death, Streep married sculptor Don Gummer, and they have four children.
