Young Maggie Smith: Story And Throwback Pictures From Her Life And Early Career

Maggie Smith is an English actress, known for her poignancy and charming roles. Her career span over 6 decades and she has appeared in more than sixty movies and 75 plays. Maggie was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 1990 for contributions to the performing arts. She was won two Oscars, three Golden Globe Awards, four Emmy Awards, and many nominations.

Smith started her acting career at the age of 17, with stage, and made her professional Broadway debut in 1956. She started her career in Hollywood with the move ‘Nowhere to Go’ in 1958, and she won her first nomination. She rose to fame with her role in the movie “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ in 1969. Throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s Smith performed in a variety of roles. Smith captured the attention of a new generation with her role in ‘Harry Potter’ and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ in 2001. And she reprised the role for six of the seven Harry Potter sequels. In 2019, Smith returned to the stage after a long break of twelve years.

Smith has been married twice. In 1967, she married actor Robert Stephens and the marriage ended in 1974. She had two sons with Stephens, and they are both actors. After a year, Smith married writer Beverley Cross, who died of cancer in 1998.
