Rare Historical Photos Show Life around the Yangtze River, China, in the 1910s

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and the third-longest globally. It is the longest river in the world to flow entirely within one country. China’s Yangtze River drains one-fifth of its land area and is home to one-third of its population. In terms of discharge volume, the Yangtze is the sixth-largest river globally.

An American photographer who was a missionary in China in the 1910s took some photographs documenting everyday life around this river while travelling up the river from Chengdu.
