Marriage life was considered the most important aspect of a girl’s life in the Victorian era. The girls were taught from an early age to marry and how to take care of the family. June was considered the luckiest month for the wedding because it resembles the Roman goddess Juno. The attire of the groom and brides was carefully planned, along with the rest of the wedding party. The wedding ceremony was usually held in the bride’s parish church. Only brides were allowed to wear plain gold, and their initials, along with the date, would be engraved inside. After the ceremony, the couples would leave the church and move toward the wedding carriage pulled by white horses. The guests would throw rice or grin as a symbol of fertility.
