Tampa is a city in the U.S. state of Florida on the Gulf Coast. It is situated along the northern shore of the Hillsborough River at the mouth of Tampa Bay, between St. Petersburg and Clearwater. It is the third-most populated city in Florida after Jacksonville and Miami. During the 19th century, Fort Brooke in Tampa served as a military center. Vincente Martinez Ybor, who named Ybor City after himself, brought the cigar industry to the city. The city of Tampa was formally incorporated after the Civil War in 1887. The economy of Tampa is driven by tourism, health care, finance, insurance, technology, construction, and the maritime industry.
These fascinating photos will take you back to the 1990s in Tampa. At the beginning of the 1990s, the population of Tampa was around 280,015. The city grew rapidly during the 1990s. Urban renewal programs were on the horizon. Despite this, the city only grew three percent in the 1980s to reach 280,015 in 1990.
Wow that is so cool.
Very cool! Thank you for sharing. I moved away in 1990, so these photos bring back memories for me.
Until recently, downtown Tampa was a dump.
Rent/housing is a big deal right now. I have to be honest. People with money moving in and restoring the areas back to respectable neighborhoods before they were abandoned doesn’t bother me that much
This is literally what gentrification is all about. The negative side is the obvious rise in rent, which can lead to evictions or displacements of residents. The positive aspects really only affect new residents since the previous ones had to leave.
This is a welcome addition to an area that needs it
