People in Fancy Costumes Celebrating the Synwell Carnival in Wotton-under-Edge in the Late 1960s

Synwell’s historic carnival featured floats decorated by residents of Wotton-under-Edge, a market town located within the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. After insurance prices for the floats skyrocketed in the mid-seventies, residents could not raise the money to continue the event. Midway through the 1990s, it briefly resurfaced.

Brian Candy took these photographs of floats at the Synwell Carnival in 1954.
