San Francisco was in the midst of the war effort following the Great Depression and during the 1940s. As the city built itself up, the docks provided jobs for men, and the factories employed women. LIFE Photographer Meith Hagle visited San Francisco in 1943 and photographed everyday Life in the midst of World War II.
