In 1899, Louis Renault founded The Renault corporation along with his brothers, Marcel and Fernand. Louis was a talented engineer who had already designed and built several prototypes. While Louis handled design and production, Marcel and Fernand managed the business.
The Renault corporation began to manufacture its engines in 1903, and within the next four years, Renault became the best-selling foreign brand in New York in 1907 and 1908. The company produced 3,575 units in 1908 alone and became the country’s largest car manufacturer. Renault made itself known by succeeding in Switzerland’s first city-to-city races, producing rapid sales growth.
Below are some fantastic historical photos show people posing with their Renault cars from between the 1930s and 1950s.
