Slim Aarons was a talented photographer. He took pictures of attractive people in a stunning environment. As a photographer of celebrities, royals, and the ultra-rich since the 1950s, he became famous as his style became increasingly associated with the elite. Aarons’ death revealed that he had never been an orphan from New Hampshire, as he had claimed, but grew up in an impoverished Jewish immigrant family on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
He worked for Life magazine and other society papers, as well as a host of other publications. Aarons influenced whole generations of photographers with his work. These stunning images offer a glimpse into the private lives of the rich and famous before they became oversaturated on social media, one that still reflects a sense of abundance and ease we all deserve this summer.
