Orange-Peel House: The Portable House for Campers and Explorers from 1955

It looks like a gigantic orange and peels apart, almost like one, a portable shelter developed in Germany. Shelter segments resemble orange peel segments. In 15 minutes, the segments can be fastened together to complete the shelter.

There are two windows and a door on the collapsible house. The parts of the shelter, including the floor are made of plywood. When the shelter is disassembled, the parts can be stacked on a small trailer for transport to the next campsite.

The “orange house” was sold in 1955 for $150 (about $1700 today).
