Fascinating Photos from the Notting Hill Carnival of 1981

Since 1966, the Notting Hill Carnival has been held in London’s Kensington Notting Hill neighborhood over two days (the August bank holiday Monday and the preceding Sunday) each August.

Around 2.5 million people attend it annually, making it one of the world’s largest street festivals and an iconic event in Black British culture. The UK public voted it onto a list of English icons in 2006.
