Stunning Surreal Photos of New York City by André Kertész

André Kertész was a genius Hungarian-born photographer known for his groundbreaking contributions to photographic composition. He emigrated to the United States in 1936, where he had to rebuild his reputation through commissions after German persecution of Jews and the threat of World War II.

The work of Kertész itself is frequently described as predominantly using light. At the outset of his career, his then-unorthodox camera angles and style hindered his work from gaining wide recognition. Kertész’s images evoked a feeling of timelessness with their intimate sense and nostalgic tone. Today he is considered one of the seminal figures of photojournalism.
