The Netherlands in 1966 Through These Fascinating Photos

Around 500,000 Dutch people left the country after the war due to government-encouraged emigration efforts to reduce population density. The 1960s and 1970s were a time of significant social and cultural change, such as rapid depolarisation marked by the break-up of old political and religious divisions. The youth, especially students, abandoned traditional mores and pushed for change on issues like women’s rights, sexuality, disarmament, and the environment.
