In the 1970s, Hassan II, the dynasty was challenged by two unsuccessful military coups in Morocco. Despite several domestic turmoils, the Arab-Israeli War and Western Sahara conflict Hassan’s popularity and strengthened. In 1973, a policy of Moroccanization was enacted in which state-held assets, agricultural lands, and businesses that were more than 50 percent foreign-owned were transferred to political loyalists and high-ranking military officers.
In August 1979, Morocco assigned a peace treaty with the Polisario and annexed the entire territory. Here below are some stunning throwback photos that show life in Morocco in the 1970s.
