The Los Angeles Alligator Farm was opened in 1907 in Lincoln Heights, which contained thousands of alligators, turtles, snakes, and iguanas. Visitors could even take alligator rides in the ponds, where children sat in saddles and rode the gators. Alligators cruise down a 16-foot slide into a pool of water after cruising up a set of stairs. The farm warned visitors not to spit on, poke or punch the alligators. However, many adults and children occasionally handled the reptiles. Some people even stole alligator babies.
