50+ Giant Character Balloons From Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is one of the largest parades in the US. It was first started in 1924 when the Macy’s employee and people marched to 34th street dressed in costumes with professional bands and live animals borrowed from the zoo. The parade was such a success that Macy’s declared it would become an annual event. The gigantic balloons were also introduced, and in 1927 different characters were introduced in the form of giant balloons such as Spider-Man, Micky mouse, and SpongeBob. #1 A fish balloon is released as the parade nears its end on Broadway in 1929. They were filled with helium and will drift for a week, with a $100 prize awarded for each one recovered.
