Mackenzie Phillips: Tragic Life Story and Photos From Her Life and Early Career

Mackenzie Phillips is an actress and singer, best known for her role in the comedy film “American Graffiti”. She was only 13 when the movie was released. Her career-changing role came with the famous Sitcom series “One Day at a Time” in 1975. Mackenzie is the daughter of John Phillips, singer in The Mamas & the Papas. From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, Mackenzie performed in folk-rock vocal group ‘The New Mamas and The Papas’. She also won an Honorary Best Actress award on March 20, 2011.

Mackenzie had Troubled life

Mackenzie Phillips was a drug addict like her father and she was arrested several times by the police on charges of possession of cocaine and heroin. She first tried cocaine when she was 11 years old. Mackenzie also went to rehab several times for drug and alcohol addiction. She was fired from the “Dinah and Her New Best Friends” TV series in the 1980s because she was always late for the rehearsals and during the rehearsals, she fell asleep.
Phillips has been married twice: first to Jeff Sessler, member of the Rolling Stones entourage. And then in 1986, she married guitarist Michael Barakan.

Mackenzie Phillips hand an intimate relationship with her father

In her memoir, High on Arrival, Mackenzie Phillips mentioned the shocking truth that she had a 10-year intimate relationship with her father. She and her father John took drugs together several times. The relationship began when she was only 18. she woke up after blacking out to find that her father was raping her. The next day, Mackenzie told her father, “We need to talk about how you raped me.” Seemingly puzzled, John Phillips replied, “Raped you? Don’t you mean, ‘We made love?’”

Mackenzie also gave the impression that the relationship became consensual over time. The relationship ended when Mackenzie became pregnant and wasn’t sure if it was her father or her husband who was the father.

Mackenzie’s half-sister, Chynna Phillips, gave a different opinion. During an interview Chynna said. “Was he actually raping her? I don’t know,” Chynna said. “Do I believe that they had an incestuous relationship and that it went on for 10 years? Yes.”
