Janice Dickinson is a fashion model and TV personality. She has been featured on the cover of famous magazines, including Vogue, Harper Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Playboy. During the 1970s and 1980s, she was one of the top successful models. Dickinson opened a modeling agency in 2005 and served as a judge on four cycles on America’s Next Top Model from 2003 to 2006.
She was born in Brooklyn New York and raised in a small household in Hollywood. Janice has a troubled childhood because of her pedophile father, she has accused her father of sexual abuse.
Because I wouldn’t give in and let him have sex with me, I was verbally and physically abused on a daily basis. I was told that I looked like a boy and wouldn’t amount to anything.
Modeling career
Janice moved to New York City in the early 1970s, to pursue her dream of becoming a supermodel. Although she has won a national competition ‘Miss High Fashion Mode’, but she was rejected many times by many modeling agencies and agents. She moved to Paris, where her ‘Exotic looks’ were admired within the European fashion industry. After gaining a reputation in France, Dickinson moved back to New York City where she signed a contract with Ford Models. By the 1980s, her career was blooming and she became the number one choice for fashion brands and magazines. She appeared on the cover of Elle seven times in a row and has been the face of ad campaigns for many brands.
Television Career
Dickinson was appointed as a judge in the reality television series ‘America’s Next Top Model’, she was fired after four cycles. She was known for her wit and straightforward criticism as a judge on the show. In 2006, she starred as a modeling agent, in her own reality show, ‘The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency’. The program aired for four seasons. In addition to her own reality show, she appeared as a guest in many reality TV Shows.
Personal life
Janice has been married four times and she has revealed her numerous relationships in the Fashion industry and Hollywood including Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicolson, Liam Neeson, Bruce Willis, and many others in her book.
In March 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Janice revealed that she initially dismissed the suggestions that she had breast cancer by claiming the lump was the result of bad cosmetic surgery. She was declared cancer-free in August 2017. Janice described her journey as a supermodel in her memoir titled ‘No Lifeguard on Duty: The Accidental Life of the World’s First Supermodel’ in 2002. She also wrote the following two years later ‘ Everything About Me is Fake… And I’m Perfect’.
