Fascinating Vintage Photos of Howard College Homecoming Parade in 1959

Howard College was founded in Marion, Alabama. A new business school was added, and the college became a university in 1965. A longtime trustee of Howard College, Frank Park Samford, was the inspiration for renaming the college after Howard University since Howard University already had the name.

Samford University is a Christian university in Homewood, Alabama. Located in Massachusetts, it is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the country. Judson College, its sister school, is slated to close in the next few months, making it the 86th college in the nation. The university has 5,729 students from 47 different states and 30 countries.

Mark Susina discovered these fantastic photos of Howard College’s 1959 homecoming parade in Homewood, Alabama. It is the tradition of welcoming back former students and members and celebrating the existence of an organization. Many high schools, colleges, and churches in the United States and Canada practice this tradition.
