Hot Springs is a resort city in Arkansas state. It was incorporated as a town in 1876 and chartered as a city in 1879. Its population grew with the rise in popularity of the springs. After the Civil War, several bathhouses and hotels were built in the city. The railroads came in Hot Springs in 1875. At the dawn of the 20th-century thousands of people from other states flocked the city to experience the waters curative power. The historic Bathhouse Row and Hot Springs National Park were also constructed. On September 5, 1913, a devastating fire broke out in the city which destroyed the southern part of the city.
