Gärdet Music Festival: The Famous Stockholm's Music Concert of the early 1970s

The party at Gärdet, Gärdesfesten, or Gärdetfestivalen was a free music festival organized at Gärdet in Stockholm on two occasions in 1970. As a cultural-political event, the first Gärdet party was held between 12 and 14 June 1970. It was inspired by the Monterey Pop Festival and the Woodstock Festival. No permits were required for the festival. Some of the artists included Gunder Hägg, Träd, Gräs och Stenar, Solen skiner, Gudibrallan, Love Explosion and Arbete & Fritid. The Gärdet party has served as a launching pad for the left-wing progressive music movement, commonly known as the prog.

On 20 and 23 August that same year, the second party at Gärdet was held, and many of the bands from the first party did not participate this time, such as Turid, Fläsket brinner, Samla Mammas Manna, Södra Bergens Balalaikor, NJA-group (later Fria Pro), and The Basics of European Dissatisfaction.
