Texan Native Ottis Littlejohn joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941 and worked at Colorado National Monument with the roadbuilding crew. He befriended several locals during his time here, including his sweetheart and a man he calls “Red” McCormick. Littlejohn either took these pictures of McCormick and his classmates during graduation week, or he got them from McCormick.
Littlejohn wrote on the back of one of the following photos that McCormick graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1941. At the time, Fruita Union High School was located in the now Fruita Middle School building.
