Beautiful Portraits Of Frida Kahlo In 1944 Captured By Sylvia Salmi

Frida Kahlo was one of the greatest Mexican artists. Kahlo’s artworks depict nature, pain, passion and artifacts of Mexican and indigenous traditions. Her first solo exhibition was held in New York at the Julien Levy Gallery in 1938, and it was a great success. Frida Kahlo married the Mexican artist Diego River in 1928 and the couple divorced in 1939 but remained a friend.

In 1950, Kahlo underwent a new bone graft surgery on her spine. During these final years of her life, Kahlo dedicated her time to political causes and rejoined the communist party. Her right leg was amputated at the knee due to gangrene in August 1953. Kahlo died on 13 July 1954 at the age of 47, and the official cause of death was a pulmonary embolism.

Here below are some beautiful photographs of Frida Kahlo captured by Sylvia Salmi in 1944. She was in Mexico and working on her painting “The Broken Column.”
