Frida Kahlo was an artist known for her self-portraits, pain, and passion for art. Frida’s artwork depicts nature, Mexican and indigenous traditions and artifacts of Mexico. She suffered from polio as a child and had a tragic accident which broke her ribs and feet, caused severe spine problems and dislocated shoulder. In her lifetime, she had 30 operations.
Frida Kahlo was also interested in politics which led to her joining the Mexican Communist Party in 1927, through which she met her life partner, Diego Rivera who was also a Mexican artist. Frida got most of the fame after the 1960s when her work was rediscovered by historians and activists.
The death of Frida Kahlo is still a mystery, the official cause of death was given as pulmonary embolism, although some suspected that she died from an overdose that may or may not has been accidental. A few days before her death, she wrote in her diary: “I hope the exit is joyful – and I hope never to return – Frida.”
