Beautiful Photos of Frida Kahlo at Her Home

In her lifetime, Frida Kahlo intended that her home become a museum after her death. Kahlo was born, lived, and died in the Blue House, now one of Mexico’s most beloved cultural landmarks. Kahlo referred to La Casa Azul as her “intimate universe” because it was painted cobalt blue inside and out.

In these pictures we get an intimate look at Kahlo’s home, where she suffered miscarriages, wore corsets to keep her upright after experiencing polio and breaking three vertebrae in a tram accident when she was 18, and ordered bell-adorned red boots for her prosthetic leg to match her other foot.

Rauda Jamis, the author of a biography of Kahlo siad:

She was a formidable being, but in great distress … not only because of the physical pain due to her terrible tram accident but because she was a deeply conflicted being.
