Most of us often overlook techniques and methods that our forefathers used in their everyday lives. However, if we look back, we could actually learn something beneficial from them. The New York Public Library has digitized several “how to do it” cards found in cigarette boxes over 100 years ago. The tips and tricks mentioned in these boxes are still practical and useful. Back in the day, cigarette cards displayed advertisements, celebrity photos, news, and many other things. Gallaher cigarettes, a UK-founded tobacco company that was once popular globally, printed helpful tips and tricks on their cards, which ranged from simple tasks like boiling potatoes to clever tips like how to make a fire extinguisher at home. The entire set of life hacks is now part of the NYPL’s George Arents Collection. Check it out and vote for your favorite ones.
