Robert Blomfield was a talented street photographer from the UK. He traveled and photographed from the 1950s to the 1970s. He used a fly-on-the-wall style camera to capture interesting or amusing scenes in a postwar world that was changing at breakneck speed. This pursuit ran alongside his medical studies at Edinburgh and subsequent years spent as a junior doctor in London.
With the advent of colour slide film in the 1970s, Robert continued to document the world around him. His extensive collection of images remained largely unknown until now. He had never sought recognition for his work since he was simultaneously pursuing a medical career.
Here are some stunning photographs showing Edinburgh’s Street life from the 1950s and 1960s by Robert Blomfield.
