Debra Paget With Elvis Presley During the Filming of Love Me Tender, 1956

Love Me Tender was Elvis’s first movie ever, and it was Paget’s 20th picture. Elvis met Paget months before the film, and it was a total surprise for Paget. The movie was initially named “The Reno Brothers,” but when the sales of Presley’s single “Love Me Tender” surpassed one million, the title of the movie was changed to match the song.

In an interview, actress Debera Paget told a magazine that she first met Elvis on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, and the first meeting was impressive. Elvis grabbed her hand firmly and said, “I’m glad to meet you.” Elvis visited Paget’s house several times during the filming of “Love Me Tender.” Debra Paget unfolds her relationship with Presley as a friend, but Elvis fell in love with her and once called Debra “the most beautiful girl in the world,” but her mother would not allow them to date.
