Street Life of Daegu, South Korea in the 1970s Through these Vintage Photos

Daegu is a city in South Korea that was formerly spelt Taegu. It is located 80 kilometres (50 miles) east of the seacoast, along the Nakdong River and Geumho River, in Gyeongsang-do, in southeastern Korea. The Daegu basin is part of the Yeongnam region. After Seoul and Busan, Daegu is the third-largest urban agglomeration in Korea; it is the third-largest official metropolitan area in the nation. It is the second-largest city in the Yeongnam region in southeastern Korea.

During the 1960s and 1980s, Daegu was known as a centre of Korean electronics manufacturing. Due to Daegu’s humid subtropical climate, the city is known as “Apple City”. The city is also known as “Textile City”. Textiles were once the city’s primary industry.

DRC took these photos from May 1970 to June 1971 when he served in the United States Army at Camp Walker in Tague.
