Rare Historical Photos of Rural Life Around the Cilgerran District of Dyfed, West Wales in the early 1900s

Cilgerran is a village, parish, and community located in Pembrokeshire, Wales, on the south bank of the River Teifi. It was formerly an incorporated market town.

These stunning historical photos show the rural life of Cilgerran District of Dyfed, West Wales, at the turn of the 20th century by Tom Mathias. All Mathias’ negatives were dumped in an outhouse after his death in 1940, where they sat, forgotten for more than thirty years. In the 1970s, James Maxwell (Maxi) Davis, a professional photographer living in the area, discovered them. They were in very poor condition. Several of them were broken and damaged beyond repair. Maxi appreciated what he had found and set about conserving and restoring the remaining photographs.
