Brigitte Bardot began dating French actor Jacques Charrier in 1959. By the time of their marriage on June 18, 1959, she was pregnant. The only child of Bardot, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, was born on January 11, 1960.
Early in the 1960s, Bardot had an affair with Canadian-American actor Glenn Ford. Nicolas was raised in the Charrier family after his mother and father divorced in 1962 and had only limited contact with his mother until he was an adult. She cited Sami Frey as the reason for her divorce from Charrier. Bardot was enamoured of Frey, but he left her soon after.
