Woman’s hair has always been an important part of her appearance. In the Victorian era, the hairstyle was a symbol of status and wealth. The Victorian era lasted almost seven decades, and each decade had different fashion trends from simple middle parts, coiled and curled to a variety of different elaborated hairstyles, sometimes embellished with jewels or feathers. Women took a deep interest in adorning their hair with flowers than flashy trinkets.
Victorian women considered hair as the most valuable asset. Upper-class women rarely wore their hair down in public. Accessories such as combs, pearls, hats, and bonnets became common. Hair was also kept long, but women also used to trim their hair. Some women would even add additional pieces of other human hair, to make their hair look thicker. The long hair was viewed as being ultra-feminine and desirable. These changed with shifting fashions, but the hair was not cut unless absolutely necessary.
Girls often wore their hair down but were expected to begin wearing it up around the age of sixteen. Braided hairstyles were also very popular among young girls, and they didn’t involve any heat or curling. Here below are some beautiful braided hairstyles from the Victorian era.
