Betty White is a passionate animal lover and works with various animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, Morris Animal Foundation, African Wildlife Foundation, and Actors & Others for Animals. During the early 1970s, while she was producing and hosting The Pet Set, where celebrities were featured with their pets, she developed an interest in animal rights and welfare.
She was also the Morris Animal Foundation president emerita, where she served as a trustee since 1971. Since 1974, she has served on the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association board of directors. In addition, White was the Zoo Commissioner for the association for eight years.
On October 1, 2011, she hosted the American Humane Hero Dog Awards ceremony at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. These vintage photos show Betty White at home with her dogs Bandy, Stormy, and Danny from 1954 to 1957.
