In the 1930s, fashion was profoundly influenced by films and specifically Hollywood. Styles for men, women, and children were greatly influenced by those seen on screen, with stars such as Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, and Shirley Temple among the many who had a direct influence.
The 1930s were just as glamorous as the 1920s, just in a different way. Cheap fabrics, affordable catalog clothing, and homespun creativity allow anyone to copy styles previously worn by the wealthy. The men still wore fedoras and double-breasted overcoats. Boys wore short shorts and tall socks. The women wore dresses and kept their hair close to their heads. Makeup was chic and shoulder pads were very important until the late 1930s. Even though women still wore hats, their popularity was gradually waning.
These vintage photos show what fashion style couples from the 1930s wore.
