Barbra Streisand is a top-selling female artist of all time. She has won awards and acclaim for her work in movies, television, theater, and music. Singing Career
Streisand had a lousy childhood; her father died when she was 15 months old. Streisand used to sing in the school choir. She didn’t attend college and started her singing career as a cabaret singer. In 1962, Streisand made her Broadway debut in a musical show, “I Can Get it For You Wholesale.” After that, she signed a contract with Columbia record and released her first album, ‘The Barbra Streisand album’ in 1963. The album was a superhit and received two Grammy Awards. She established herself as a major Broadway star in the career-making role of Fanny Brice in the musical “Funny Girl (1964)”. Streisand has recorded 50 studio albums and has sold over 250 million records worldwide.
Acting Career
Barbra made her screen debut with television series ‘My Name is Barbra’ in 1964. The show received five Emmy awards. She made her big-screen debut in the film ‘Funny Girl (1968)’, the film was a great artistic and commercial success. Streisand worked in many notable films, including ‘Hello, Dolly!’, ‘On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, ”The Owl and the Pussycat,’ ‘ The Way We Were,’ and many more. She has also produced a number of films, setting up Barwood Films in 1972. The first film she made was ‘Yentl’ in 1983.
Streisand has been married twice. In 1963, she married actor Eliot Gould. They were married for eight years and had one child, Jason. Her second husband is actor James Brolin, whom she married on July 1, 1998.
