Stunning Postcards Show Interiors of America Cocktail Lounges from the 1950s

When indoor smoking bans did not exist, urban and suburban restaurants had cocktail lounges, many of which popped up along newly paved highways.

Today, you can still find the occasional branded match at a restaurant, but a custom postcard is a rare find. These postcards from the mid-twentieth century attest that this wasn’t the case 50 to 75 years ago. Modern restaurateurs increasingly use these cocktail lounges as a nostalgic nod to a long-gone era.
