Ipswich is a county town in Suffolk, England. It is located at the head of Orwell estuary, in the south-eastern part of the county. Ipswich’s modern name is derived from the medieval name ‘Gippeswic.’ In the 17th century, the county prospered as a port was the midpoint of export of East Anglian textiles. During the 19th century, the local economy was affected when light engineering firms were established there. Engineering and various agricultural industries have remained significant.
Ipswich was ranked as an emerging global tourist destination and voted as the 7th most desirable place to live and work in England. The county was also awarded as the cleanest town in England.
