In the first three decades of the twentieth century, Hong Kong’s population continued to increase. In the first decade of the 20th century, Hong Kong was struck by the deadliest typhoon twice, which causes substantial loss of life and property damage. At the outbreak of World War, I Hong Kong served as an important port in East Asia, including the British China Station headquarters, and saw significant socio-economical changes.
