Ola Hudson was one of the most prominent fashion designers and costumier. She designed and tailored costumes from many Hollywood and Music icons, including Diana Ross, Janet Jackson, David Bowie, John Lennon, and Ringer Star. She took good care of the visual identity of David Bowie when he was Hudson was born and grew up in Los Angeles and she studied art and dance. In the mid-1970s, Hudson designed outfits for Bowie’s 1974 Diamond Dogs tour of the US.
Hudson was born and grew up in Los Angeles and she studied art and dance. After completing her studies, she went to Paris at the Institute of Dance. Ola met British illustrator and graphic designer, Anthony Hudson, in London and they got married. She gave birth to the Rockstar, Slash Hudson, the lead guitarist of the rock band ‘Guns N’ Roses’. However, the marriage did not last long. In the mid-1970s, Ola worked exclusively for David Bowie, she trailed beautiful dresses for his ‘Thin White Duke’ ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’ movie. Soon, the working relationship turned into a mysterious romance that went on for a while.
Hudson’s designs and work were featured in many fashion magazines. She created many collections for famous fashion brands. The items that Hudson designed for Bowie are on permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
Ola Hudson died after a long battle with cancer on June 5, 2009.
