50+ Gorgeous Fashion Photos Of Jerry Hall From Her Modeling Career

Jerry Faye Hall was born in Texas and grew up knowing she wanted something bigger than small-town life. At just sixteen years old, she packed a suitcase full of clothes her mother had made — knockoffs inspired by Frederick’s of Hollywood — and bought a one-way ticket to Paris with insurance money. No return trip planned. No safety net. She arrived in one of the world’s most competitive fashion cities with almost nothing and quickly made herself impossible to ignore.

Her first major break came in 1975, when she appeared on the cover of Roxy Music’s album Siren. That single image introduced her face to millions of people who had never set foot in a fashion magazine. From there, the momentum was immediate. Within seven years, Hall had appeared on 40 magazine covers, including Italian Vogue and Cosmopolitan — two of the most competitive publications in the industry. Her look was striking: tall, blonde, and with a natural confidence that translated effortlessly in front of any camera.

Some of her most striking early work was shot behind the Iron Curtain. In 1975 and 1976, Hall traveled to the Soviet Union for editorial shoots — an unusual location for Western fashion photography during the Cold War. She posed next to Soviet monuments, stood in Red Square reading a newspaper dressed in Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, and even waved the Communist flag for a British Vogue spread. The contrast between high Western fashion and Soviet backdrops made for some of the most memorable images of her career.

The year 1975 was especially productive. Hall shot extensively in France, including a series at the Palace of Versailles that showcased her ability to command grand, historic settings. She wore a silk jersey dress laced with gold leather for one shoot, and a one-shouldered satin column dress for another — each look distinct, each photograph a demonstration of why photographers kept calling her back. That same year, she was also photographed in Jamaica, adding tropical locations to an already international portfolio.

By the early 1980s, Hall was working alongside some of the biggest names in modeling. In 1982, she appeared with Iman — one of the other dominant supermodels of the era — for a French Vogue shoot in Paris. The two photographed together produced some of the most talked-about fashion imagery of that decade. Hall’s ability to share a frame with another strong presence without being overshadowed said everything about her stature in the industry.

Away from the studio, Hall was a fixture in the celebrity world of the late 1970s and 1980s. She was photographed in 1979 alongside Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, Truman Capote, and Paloma Picasso in New York City — a single image that reads like a snapshot of an entire cultural moment. Her relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger kept her in the press throughout the 1980s, though her presence in fashion never depended on who she was standing next to.

Her London shoots in 1988 showed a model fully in command of her image. Whether posing with tousled wet hair, working a lingerie shoot in black, or simply sitting for a portrait, Hall’s presence in front of the camera remained consistent and deliberate. She knew exactly how to give a photographer what they needed, and the results showed in image after image from that period.

Hall continued working steadily into the 1990s and 2000s. She took on editorial shoots for major publications including The Daily Mirror and The Telegraph, and fronted an Evian advertising campaign in 2003. These later-career photos proved that her appeal wasn’t tied to a single decade or trend — she adapted and remained a sought-after subject for photographers and brands alike.

Beyond modeling, Hall also pursued acting and theater. She appeared in various films and television productions over the years. Her theater work eventually earned her a place in the record books — she holds the World Record for the most theatrical appearances in a single night, having performed in front of 9,124 theatre-goers in London. It was the kind of milestone that underscored a career built on showing up and delivering, in whatever room she was asked to fill.

Early in her career, Hall was closely connected to illustrator and fashion figure Antonio Lopez, with whom she was photographed multiple times in 1975. Lopez was a central figure in the fashion world of that era, and his association with Hall placed her firmly within that creative circle from the very beginning of her rise. These photos from 1975 capture a young model already comfortable and self-assured in front of the lens.
