Dana Gillespie is an actress, singer, and songwriter, she released her first album at the age of 15. Her music career span over four decades in which she has recorded around 60 albums. As a schoolgirl, she had a young David Bowie carrying home her books and teaching her guitar chords. He also wrote the song ‘Andy Warhol’ for her. Bowie also produced her second album along with Mick Ronson in 1973. Gillespie began her singing career with the folk genre but later switched to rock. After folk and Rock, she dedicated her life to the blues.
I believe the blues should be sung by an older person because it’s about emotions and experience. I couldn’t do justice to it when I was younger because my voice didn’t have the edge it needed to convey the emotion, nor did I have the firsthand experience to sing about blue themes convincingly.
Gillespie appeared in many theaters shows like Jesus ‘Christ Superstar’ and movies such as ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, ‘Parker (1986)’, ‘Strapless (1989)’ and many more. She also appeared in a cult classic ‘The People That Time Forgot (1977)’. Currently, she is the organizer of the annual Blues festival at Basil’s Bar on Mustique in the Caribbean.
