Utica is a city in New York state. After the Erie Canal arrived in 1825, Utica grew quickly and became a city in 1832. In the late 19th and early 20th century Utica became hub of textile industry, several other industries were also constructed including cotton, furniture manufacturing, heavy machinery and lumber. A large number of Italian, Irish, Polish and Lebanese immigrants worked in the industries. By the 1950s, Utica became a “Sin City” due to massive political corruption and organized crimes.
