Stunning Cover Photos of Autocar, British Automobile Magazine from the 1950s

Autocar is a weekly British automobile magazine published by the Haymarket Media Group. It was founded in 1895 and is “the world’s oldest car magazine.” The magazine now has several international editions, including those for China, India, New Zealand, and South Africa. In addition, sixteen countries outside the United Kingdom publish Autocar, including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Autocar’s name was changed to Autocar at the beginning of 1962. The rival magazine Motor, which Autocar had battled since 1903 on the newsstands, was absorbed by Autocar in 1988. The magazine changed its name to Autocar & Motor with the 7 September 1988 issue. It reverted to Autocar for the 21 September 1994 issue.

Autocar digitized its entire archive dating back to 1895 in 2021. In addition, subscribers can access the Motoring Archive online. These vintage photos show the covers of Autocar magazines from the 1950s.
