Vertigo is a 1958 noir psychological thriller film based on the 1954 novel D’entre les morts (From Among the Dead) by Boileau-Narcejac. Alfred Hitchcock directed and produced Alec Coppel, and Samuel A. Taylor wrote the film and screenplay. This timeless complex story is full of suspense psychological, and sexual tensions. Hitchcock’s direction is simply masterful. His cinematography is timeless. It is stylish and filled with contrasts of dark and bright colors, and it is also very brooding and intense. Vertigo’s biggest strength is framed as a story about a man with vertigo dealing with a bizarre case, but it’s really about obsession and a man digging a little too deep into a case.
Kim Novak starts a little wooden, but she’s undoubtedly gorgeous and enigmatic. Here are some gorgeous photos of Kim Novak during the filming of Vertigo ‘(1958).’ she gave an outstanding performance here in her best film, which probably also is Hitchcock’s and James Stewart’s best film. Despite all the character complications, Novak was perfectly convincing in all three roles, and she still makes everything make sense.
